GRIMOIRE - JAM VERSION


Dear Retro Lovers,

Last week I was able to make and submit another game, Grimoire, for two gamejams, the Practice Jam #1 a more freeform and chill jam to get motivation to practice following the theme "One Room" and the ACS Gamejam 2024 with the theme being "Limitations Breeds Creativity".

Although I'm quite happy with the final result, I really feel that Grimoire could use some more love, and maybe become worthy enough to be a test project for a more fficial release on Steam.

I will take time, but I'll try my best to stick with this project for once and work on it until I'm totally satisfied.

Through the devlogs, I will take time to talk freely about the game and how I came up with that project among other stuff but for now, I'm happy to announce that I boosted up a little the game's page t make it a little more attractive.


- Reworking the menu with animated sprites

- Reworking or creating splash screen with moving elements that assemble themselves into the title

- Refactoring the level switch system. The way it is done now make recursive loops hapenning in the editor and that is not good.

- Redesigning the level to keep coyote jump as a safety and not a mandatory mechanic.

- Setting up an actual itch.io game page

- Adding screenshots, thumbnail and other PR elements to the game's page

- A background sprite element: chains that justify floating platfrms by holding them

- simple 2 color backgroud details like bricks, columns, windows etc

- Moar levels
- A menu to select the unlocked levels

- A save feature allowing to unlock any leval that has been bet

- Fixing the Warp ingredient sound as it play two times

- Polishing the Warp ingredient with a "recharge" animation

- Fixing the Ghost ingredient's SFX that stop abruptly if anther ghost is touched while the sfx was playing.

- Polishing the ghost ingredient to make it deform when the player bounces off it

- Delaying the teleport sound after pickup the page so the two sfx doesn't play at the same time.

- Introduction screen

-An option to control sfx and music volume

-An ingame menu allowing to go back to main menu, restart a level or accessing options

- Adding a floating platform ingredient with the graphic of an open sprite

- Integrating a new obstacle ingredient as a red ball that bounces the player back

- Fixing window size and fullscreen resolution problems

- An ingame menu featuring all the OpenGameArt credits

- Death counter that can be hidden

- Time counter for speed run mode

- One life mode for the hardcore players

- Game over screen for 1 life mode

- Extra mode featuring all the gamejams levels as they were in the Jam's version
