DEVELOPING GAMES ON LINUX
Hello!
This project started almost by accident.

For the past decade, I have been developing small retro-inspired games with Imogia Games.
My projects usually target a style I self-proclaimed Novo Retro: small games inspired by the limitations, aesthetics, and design philosophy of classic consoles.
Because of that, I rarely need cutting-edge hardware. Most of my work can run comfortably on older laptops.
Around the same time, I started FlipFlaptops, a small refurbishing hobby where I recover older computers, give them a second life, and put them back into circulation. Many of these machines simply cannot run modern versions of Windows comfortably anymore, but they perform surprisingly well with Linux Mint or Linux XFCE.
As Windows 10 approaches its end of support, I found myself installing Linux on more and more machines. Eventually, I realized that most of my own game development work could also be done on Linux. So I converted my own older laptops to Linux Mint Cinnamon.

The articles here are not written by a Linux expert. Quite the opposite, actually. I am a Windows user discovering Linux.
I would advise my readers to consider this project as a collection of tips and tricks picked up along the way rather than an expert testimony on open-source operating systems.
I am no guardian of the temple, really. I much prefer conquering temples rather than defending them, usually through a heroic avatar equipped with a sword, shield and maybe sometimes, a bow.
My goal here is simple: if another beginner decides to make games on Linux tomorrow, hopefully these articles will save them a few hours of frustration. Game development has never been more accessible than it is today.
Even with an "obsolete" machine, one can still express creativity, make games, and publish them to the world. So welcome to the journey of a Linux noob and a Retro Game Sorcerer!
