Gamejam Devlog - Timedust v0.1.0 - Prototype!
Hello! The gamejam has ended, and I am proud to announced that I managed to submit my game! With all the features I talked about in the previous post!
It seems there is a strange bug where the D-Pad doesn't function as intended (the character stops moving even though a direction is pressed), but luckily it doesn't occur when using the joystick!
If any of my readers take the time to play the game with a controller, please tell me if you have this bug too, I'm curious to know!
So everything is here: Doors remotely opened by a button, an enemy that you can kill and that can kill you, and the animated spikes.
I also added a door to reach at the end of each level, and that warps to the next level.
Futhermore, I also added signs that serves as tutorial or to give some short messages to the player. Everything obviously lacks polishing, but the code underneath is functional, and I'm really happy about that =)
Both level warp and sign object functions the same way, they send some properties to the singleton which in turns defines what they'il display (for the signs) or to where they must warp the player (for the final doors).
One little thing I regret is that I didn't think to make the breakable/interactive actors to respawn at the same time as the player. I totally forgot this and, by the time I realized it while tseting, I didn't had enough time left. And, Time is Key, right ? ;)
Also, a strange bug of the engine occurred and I lost the last level :( I took upon myself to redo it, even if it is not as good as the previous version, as I had to rush it. However I couldn't accept to just cut it :p
So in the end I think I had a solid base for developing this prototype into something more legit as a game. Maybe I'll enter the jam again next month (after all I have a lot of cool assets to use thanks to the BLM and Plaestinian Aid bundles, and even other bundles).
It was a fun learning journey, and a bit less frustrating one on the top of that.
I will continue to post devlogs, for at least each ingredient mentionned above. I would also love to see the full art pack of o_lobster in action, I think it will make the game game look really better!
