TIMEDUST: A NEW GAME JAM PROJECT

I haven't made any progress on Anila since 6 months or so :/ Time flies, but I think I hit a blocker on the road, more about this in an other article in the future.

This post is about announcing a new game i'll try to be working on: Timedust.

I was browsing for gamejams yesterday and found this one: One Game A Month Jam . This brought back memories from a few years ago when I submitted a few games on the late One Game A Month Challenge .

So yeah, why not focusing intensely ona smaller project? That seemd a good idea. Moreover, with the "recent" Itchio racial equality bundle (recent is relative as this bundle ended last year) I now am in possession of a nice lot of assets I can use however I want for most of them. As I prefer creating my own art for my own biggers projects, gamejams are a perfect opportunity to use those lovely assets! SO, I entered the jam. I join in the middle of the jam so I'll have to work a bit more to get things done as I will have only 2 weeks to submit my game. The theme is a really cool one: Time is the key.

I took some time to reflect on this, and I finally had a sparkle, along which asset's I'll use. I'll try to make an action platformer, where most traps are too fast to dodge at normal speed. The main concept will then to slow down time in order to be able to pass through. I think this can be done relatively easily with a boolean property that will change the traps speed in the world. I think the trigger for slowing down time will be a kind of clock device that the player has to activate first. Then the slow down effect will trigger on concerned objects and will last for a certain amount of time.

I will use o_lobster's Metroidvania pack. This art is lovely and is pretty complete for what I want, so I'll be able to focus a bit more on coding and gamedesign.

Wish me luck!
